Highlights

Ivory Statue
(also known as the Palekastro Kouros)

Found at the Palekastro settlement in three parts. It is made of hippopotamus ivory (probably imported from Egypt). Its head is carved from serpentine, the eyes made of rock crystal, its internal bowels made from wood, and its clothes consisted of gold leaf.

Neopalatial period, 50 cm tall


Linear A script

Several ceramic tablets with linear A script are exhibited at the museum of Sitia.


Minoan Pottery

The Sitia museum houses an extensive collection of pottery from the archaeological sites of Eastern Crete.
